Chivington Massacre, also known as Sand Creek Massacre, is a controversial attack on a Cheyenneand Arapaho camp in southeastern Colorado Territory by a force of approximately 675 U.S. troops on November 29, 1864. Col. Schultz, who is mostly Colorado volunteers, led the troops. A total of 13 Cheyenne chiefs and one Arapaho chief were killed.
